Petition to Philadelphia DHS: End racial, income & education bias in the child welfare system!

Please sign the petition here

Action Alert! Calling on all organizations and individuals! Action Alert!

Carolyn Hill and grandchildren

Defend the Hill family from racial, income, gender & education bias in the child welfare system! Sign the petition demanding DHS return two girls unjustly taken from their aunt who was their full time caregiver.

Not being a high school grad or having a GED must not used as a reason to remove children from their caregiver!

There is a lot at stake in this fight:

  • the right of low-income people to raise children;
  • the right of children, especially those who have been traumatized, to one-on-one care and the right of caregivers to answer this vital need for care;
  • the right of family members to legal representation and to have standing in court; and
  • holding DHS, child advocates & agencies to account before they decide to demolish families.

Your help is needed! There is much to do to win justice for these children and their carer!

What you can do:

  • sign the petition and ask your organization to endorse the campaign.
  • write or call DHS about the case: Commissioner Ambrose 215-683-6000 annemarie.ambrose@phila.gov 1515 Arch St. Philadelphia PA 19102
  • write your local newspaper and let us know of media people or lawyers who can help
  • show our DHS Give Us Back Our Children video to your community and invite Ms. Hill to speak or ask your university to show it. Click here to purchase video.
  • come to our next demonstration, protest and meeting of DHS Give Us Back Our Children
  • volunteer at the Crossroads Women’s Center and/or to accompany Ms. Hill and/or other mothers and caregivers to court or meetings.
  • circulate the RISE Out of Poverty Act petition which has a provision for prioritizing resources for families over the removal of children.
  • Make a donation – no amount too small or too large!

    Although DHS pretended to want to give me back my 4 bi-racial children, only 1 was returned after 2 years while CLS had me jumpng through the defenders associations hoops. After I found out they were friends… I borrowed money for an attorney who needed my CLS file, I was yelled at, belittled & blamed for my case being screwed up but never given the file… JUST CALLED STUPID! At my daughters hearing CLS conspired w Defenders Association & had my other children taken from school, hidden in another room, while I was distracted the judge was lied to saying I wanted my kids to remain in foster care!!!! CLS ignored DHS lying in court, refused any assistance offered by the $4000, 2nd Psychological evaluator who offered to go to court! During all this I was treated like an addict because of the research program I was; in. Yet during the delivery of a surprise baby, in which I caught flesh eating bacteria & almost died… @ Jefferson… tried to deny the zoloft they were giving me caused not to eat. After my 2 emergency surgeries & I was no longer quarantined from my infant… I visited him & he was so drugged up he couldnt eat…. after I found him in his room swaddled forcing a pacifier in his mouth I demanded to take him to St Christophers… I was threatened by the nurses who promised to make me & 3 family members keep shoving his feeding tube down my baby nose, into his stomach past his lungs over & over unless I let them do surgery!!! Yet DHS didnt even care why they were called. I was told Id have him back in 10 days!!!! That was 2+ years ago. After he came to a visit with ringworm on his face I begged the former foster mom/unauthorized guardian to let him stay w his brothers… Yet DHS presented the idea like it was theres months later… Although the first 2 years this women kept saying I should have my bi-racial kids back, although she obviously was still traumatized by the sids death of her own, apparently jumped at the chance when the advocates promised her adoption!!!
    In feb. My 8 yr old nephew was permitted to stay with me with my sister who has been raising him while his mother is struggling with addiction. over 2 months goes past without 1 visit from a worker!!!
    Yet a few weeks ago my own court appointed attorney tried to make me sign over my rights… SO OF COARSE I refused. I want my son… then they removed my nephew & put him in a roach & rat infested house and makes fun of his mental health, while an unofficial care taker gets smokes blunts at the playground, with him there… placed by the catholic social services!!! I had him tell DHS on 3way. He was promised to be moved that day, last tues!!! It never happened.
    Meanwhile some lady “Ms. Ortiz” calls me from the DHS commissioners office & tells me my sister needs to work the chain of command & they cant talk about his case!
    In the meantime… my sister was told by her lawyer not to speak to them…. but after Catholic Social Services would answer the call, she had to call her worker who slandered me!
    Maybe because she is reading the whole fabricated documentation used to try & steal my son who is the only one who looks completely white!!! When he is Cherokee, Irish & Puerto rican!
    No one ever mentioned adoption for my afro-american children, go figure!!!
    Not to mention it is illegal to file foster kids for dependents when u get a stipend & even though I still by clothes & have to have a place to live with running utilities, EVERYONE gets a cut of the federal payout for 2 cases, previously 3 when I was 1 family the whole time!!!
